SmartLogic App Developer Blog Club: End of Summer Technical Post Round-Up
Summer is unofficially over and even if you’re not back in school, you should embrace the season and learn something new.
Check out what the team is talking about on their blogs:
- Dan Ivovich, SmartLogic’s Director of Development Operations, has been diving deep into Docker all summer and can get you up to speed. Previously on his blog, Dan discussed setting up PostgreSQL in Docker. Once you conquer that, you can work on running Ghost. Dan is a big fan of Nginx and has a guide to running Nginx for a web server. Once you’ve done all of the work you need to get everything running, luckily Dan can help you build images and enable systemd files. If you want to track how everything is running, add New Relic monitoring. To cover all your bases and be ready for disaster recovery, learn more about Postgres backups. After all that work, take a break and unwind by listening to the Security Now podcast. They recently celebrated 520 episodes.
- Developer Eric Oestrich has also been working with Docker and has advice for running Nginx and then inserting Nginx inside of a docker container with a self-signed root certificate. If you’re tinkering with Kubernetes then Eric can help you run Postgres inside the cluster. Also, when recently switching back to working with Java, Eric discussed his top three features of modern Java.
